New Opportunities: April 2023
NCSSM-Morganton
Summer Student Opportunity–No Cost!

We are excited to share that the Summer Accelerator residential program, sponsored by the Dogwood Health Trust, is open for applications!  We are offering two courses for rising 7th – 9th grade students and two courses for rising 10th – 12th grade students.  We have openings for 60 middle and high school students to stay on our NCSSM-Morganton campus during the week of July 23-28th to take one of these summer courses. Currently, we have too many applicants for Forensics so only put that course as a 2nd option if you are interested in it.

This opportunity is only available to students in the Dogwood Health Trust area. You MUST live in one of these 18 counties: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, and Yancey as well as the Qualla Boundary. The application process is competitive. We would really love to have all 19 areas represented. The students’ rooms, food, courses, supplies, and field trips will be covered by the grant. They just need to get to Morganton on July 23 and be picked up on July 28th.  The application deadline has been extended to May 5th and finalists will be notified on May 12th. Students may apply at https://www.ncssm.edu/summer-programs/accelerator/dogwood-health-trust.

Resource Highlight

Dive In

Water is undoubtably one of our most important resources. In this lesson, students use driving questions to discover the agricultural significance of water sources, why water is needed to produce and maintain life, and how they can responsibly use water. They will then use their new skills and knowledge to create a presentation based on careers related to water that they are most interested in.
