Description of Sessions:

Feb 18 – Activities will be identified and explained so that teachers will know what to teach and not teach for the topics below: 

Weather and Climate at grades K, 2 and 5

Properties of Matter at grades K through 5

Mar 4 – Activities will be identified and explained so that teachers will know what to teach and not teach for the topics below:

Plants for grades K through 5

Animals for grades K through 5

Mar 18 – Leaders will explain when to use and not use Multiple Choice test items as well as tips for writing effective items.  Science Note-booking and classroom activities will be demonstrated for use in creating formative science evaluations.

Apr 15 – Leaders will share as many K-5 summative science evaluations as time allows and explain how each is effective in gauging student understanding rather than expecting memorization and rote-learning.

You are invited to apply to be a part of the inaugural class of I-ACT Fellows Program, which will include 16 teachers from North Carolina and Indiana.

Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Research Program

The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Research Program provides an opportunity for K–12 educators from the United States to conduct research and engage in other professional learning experiences abroad for three to six months.

The Ron Mardigian Biotechnology Teaching Award

The Ron Mardigian Biotechnology Teaching Award, sponsored by Bio-Rad Laboratories, recognizes a teacher who demonstrates outstanding and creative teaching of biotechnology in the classroom. The award includes a recognition plaque to be presented at the NABT Professional Development Conference, one-year complimentary membership to NABT and up to $500 toward travel to the NABT Professional Development Conference and Bio-Rad materials.
 Application Deadline: March 15, 2021.
Outstanding New Biology Teacher Achievement Award

This award, sponsored by Pearson, the Neil A. Campbell Educational Trust and NABT, recognizes outstanding teaching (grades 7-12 only) by a “new” biology/life science instructor within their first three years of teaching (when nominated) who has developed an original and outstanding program or technique and made a contribution to the profession at the start of their career. 
Application Deadline: March 15, 2021.
Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Program

Outstanding Earth Science Teacher (OEST) awards are given for “exceptional contributions to the stimulation of interest in the Earth Sciences at the pre-college level.” Any teacher or other K-12 educator who covers a significant amount of earth science content with their students is eligible.
Application Deadline: March 31, 2021.
