Free for 4th-6th Grade Educators:

NC State is teaming up with Project Food, Land, and People to offer a fully virtual, free professional development workshop in January.  We invite 4-6th grade teachers to join us!The workshop will be held in 4 two hour sessions: January 4, 6, 11, and 13 from 3-5 pm. You can expect an interactive experience while logged in to Zoom during these times, with about two additional time spent on homework throughout the session at your own pace.  We will train teachers on Project Food, Land and People, focusing on ways to bring hands-on lessons to your students in online or in-person formats.  We will also feature time with local NC farmers who will also host virtual field trips for your students after you complete the training.  We ask that participants commit to the entire workshop, and we can offer documentation for 1.0 CEUs.This project is also part of a research project funded through the USDA and led by NC State.  Participating teachers will be encouraged, but not required, to participate.  Participation involves administering online surveys to students and sending survey links to parents.Please see the attached flyer and click here to sign up for the workshop.  Any questions can be answered by Caitiln Reilly at [email protected].Look forward to seeing you in January!Caitlin Reilly & Kathryn StevensonParks, Recreation & Tourism Management | NC State Universitygo.ncsu.edu/stevenson


Nation’s Highest Honors for STEM Teachers

For more than 35 years, the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) have rewarded and inspired teachers across the country. PAEMST, which have honored more than 5,000 teachers, are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K–12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching. Awardees receive a trip to Washington, DC; a $10,000 award; and opportunities to network with colleagues from across the nation. Nominate a teacher or apply today at www.paemst.org.


We are pleased to announce that we are in the planning phases for the 1st Annual Student Led CS Virtual Summit. Our division is currently recruiting students to sit on the Planning and Marketing Committees. If you know of any students who may be interested please have them complete the Interest Form.


NC Computer Standards Now Available:

At the August State Board of Education Meeting, the K-12 Computer Science Standards were approved for implementation in the 2021-22 school year. These standards are now available for viewing on our website: Computer Science & Technology Education. Additional resources are being developed and when available will also be posted to this site.
